LOVE OR MONEY
Which will you choose?
Have you ever even thought about it?
Does it really matter?
So I get asked this weird question a lot, probably like every day, Why Anthropology?
I generally give people the same answer.
It’s because I’m passionate about people and culture, and how those two aspects affect the societies we are a part of. Trust me, if you have ever had an indebt conversation with me or read one of my Anthro pieces, you would see what I’m referring to.
It’s some real zeal.
So I have based my future on my passion, no other criteria, just my passion.
Is that delusional?
Should I have chosen law over anthropology, I had both choices.
Is there anything such as a preferred career?
Several persons are aware of the new concept of a career being not just a job but a lifelong commitment. However, even though this is known not many individuals engage in deep analytical thinking about career paths and future studies. It is merely thought about as brain power and intelligence. If your smart enough to do it then you should do it, but no one ever asks will you like doing it for majority of your lifetime, or what is your heart felt reason for why you want to pursue this.
Take medicine for example, we have several doctors that went to medical school without any other option. Someone else shared the dream for them or they had to become the family’s bread winner. Then down the line, 5 out of every 10 may end up unhappy.
Wouldn’t it be nice to live your own dreams?
So no I am not saying its bad for you to do something you have completely no enthusiasm for but its way better to chase your “stupid crazy ideas”, with guidance of course.
Yes, the money of the main stream jobs is attractive and easier to be sure about receiving but the actual phrase “money can’t buy you happiness” is quite true.
No amount of wealth can bring you true joy.
I would choose joy over wealth on any day, but to have both would be tremendously life changing.
Your dreams can become a reality with hard work and determination. Nothing is impossible, it just all depends on how bad you want it and the steps you’re willing to take to ensure it happens.
“If is the street you sweep, make sure you’re the best at it”
–Aunty
I grew up hearing this being said to me over and over, and later learnt that it was a shortened form of a quote of Martin Luther King Jr.
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
Simply put, at the end of the day, whatever you choose to do with your life, whether it is for love or money; ensure that you are doing it to the best of your ability. There is no place in life for mediocrity. It makes no sense living life, doing things in your life, if you’re not doing it to your very best potential.
Truly it is easier to give your best self to something you are passionate about, but never forget you had a choice, and whatever you chose give it your best no matter what.
Putting money and love aside, giving out your best makes life so much more worthwhile.
Our aim should always be to make a difference or an impact to the few lives we touch.
And they will say here lived a great: where ever your life path takes you.
